An assessment of trade policies related to COVID-19

Amidst the COVID-19 crisis, international trade was particularly important to guarantee supply of medical and other goods. This article analyses trade-related policies found in World Trade Organization (WTO) system from February October 2020. We used Database WTO members’ notifications on COVID-19, including information 198 notifications. It allows us observe trend notifications, countries products most affected, types measures, adherence WTO’s guidelines. Our findings show two waves In first wave, acted unilaterally with little regard multilateral tools. However, second characterized by predominance trade-facilitating a towards actions is observed through establishment “declarations”. Personal protective equipment (PPE) supplies were affected products, but agricultural food have also been heavily affected.
